“I started at 3E Group as an intern. I was aware of the mining industry however, I was unaware of the engineering capabilities within the industry as a graduate. I had not been exposed to the design element in engineering. Being in the programme I was given the opportunity to run my own project. This was not an easy task as I was handed with all the responsibilities of running a project and I had to learn a lot of skills in a short space of time.
That experience exposed me to new systems and software, I now understand the principles of design, specifically with the COMOS platform. This has given me a great deal of knowledge and I now feel that I am on the right career path. This is a male dominated space and being the only woman in my department, I have had to work harder than most. If it wasn’t for the programme, I wouldn’t be where I am right now.”
“I joined 3E Group as a PLC engineer, being part of the programme then exposed me to a new design software which is COMOS. During my time in the programme, we experimented with a number of different fields using COMOS, this fast track my experience with the platform and allowed me to gain more experience as I would get better at using the platform day by day.
The programme assisted in upgrading my skills when it comes to design specification, I now know how to fully develop the design in a software package, this has given me a deeper understanding of how to use engineering components within design. The understanding of the package was difficult in the initial stage however with time it became easier.
The programme has given me a competitive edge in engineering, understanding the engineering principles which are used in design, this has aided me in my journey to becoming an expert in the field.”
“This programme has exposed my business to a new and dynamic business model. As a business owner I have been exposed to new ways of doing business more efficiently, effectively and in a timely fashion. As a result, my business now has new innovative ways of reaching out to clients and not just doing business in a traditional sense.
The world is moving towards the digital space. I was unaware of the digital space and its untapped capabilities. Being in the programme exposed my business to this knowledge and deepened my understanding of how to operate within the space. I can now apply what I have learned to better align my business with the current world needs and ensure that my business will thrive.
Not having prior knowledge of the digital space, the main challenge which I picked up on is that there is limited knowledge with regards to the technologies used and the businesses which are in that ecosystem. As a new business, breaking into that ecosystem and building a credible reputation has been challenging.”
As a student the programme enabled me to integrate academic learning with applications in the workplace. The programme helped me to fine tune my technical and communication skills. I have also learned critical and practical work-related skills and I believe it has given me a huge advantage in the workplace. The programme has exposed me to the COMOS platform which is an integrated plant management system. It enables different stakeholders from different fields in the plant design to interact and share data effectively
As someone who consistently seeks to be actively involved in the next breakthrough in engineering as a fraternity, I had no knowledge of the innovative COMOS platform until I learnt about 3Egroup and the work the company does in the mining industry utilising COMOS. The COMOS software has given me the opportunity to explore its vast potential, from integrated multi-disciplinary designs to learning about the ability to monitor active equipment on site through IoT concepts.
I have learned new software and how they can be applied in a general business sense. 3EGroup pushes us to be as inventive in solutions as possible while maintaining the required standard for the client and as such, I have learnt how to go from ideas to practical implementations. The programme emphasizes individual responsibility for meeting targets while keeping in line with the clients’ requirements and standards. My communication skills have also improved since joining the programme due to having personal responsibility to continuously communicate with the client so that we stay on track.
